The 2025 University of Tokyo Fall Graduation Ceremony, held on September 19th at Yasuda Auditorium, was conducted for graduate and undergraduate students who completed their studies between April and September. The ceremony took place in English, with a live broadcast available online.
In his address, President Teruo Fujii referred to the deepening opposition between the government and academic institutions in the United States, emphasizing the importance of mutual dialogue between universities and society. As a non-Anglophone university, Fujii expressed UTokyo’s commitment to overcoming language barriers through dialogue, urging graduates to serve as bridges for dialogue with society. As was the case last year, “dialogue” emerged as a key theme.
The valedictory addresses were delivered by Shoma Kato, representative of the graduating doctoral students from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Reira Kasai, representative of the graduating undergraduates from the Faculty of Education.
Immediately following the valedictory address, some attendees voiced calls for the UTokyo President to accept Palestinian students.
